I'm not going to take a position regarding the problems of the past, as I
have no first-hand experience with them. However, I would like to say that
I am pleased that you (assuming you represent the views of the mplayer team)
are not allowing an individual conflict to hamper your relationship with
Debian as a whole.
Regarding mencoder, it is unfortunate that lame cannot be included[0], but
mencoder is still useful without it. I use it regularly with -oac copy or
even -oac pcm. I would love to be able to use Vorbis; open and unencumbered
lossy audio compression is currently much more advanced and available than
the corresponding video compression technologies.
