Bug#165575: RFA: ddd -- The Data Display Debugger, a graphical debugger frontend.

Package: wnpp
Version: unavailable; reported 2002-10-20
Severity: normal

I'm looking for someone to adopt the DDD package.

DDD is the Data Display Debugger, a graphical debugger frontend, in
particular to GDB. [*]

DDD is reasonably popular (see
http://people.debian.org/~apenwarr/popcon/results.devel.html) and the
packages are in reasonable shape for now, but are starting to need more
tender love and care than I can provide:
- At runtime, there are a few lesstif-related warnings which should be dealt
  with (or silenced)
- I've seen no upstream development for about a year now, and some bit rot
is seting in on several fronts:
  - the yacc files need updating to work with the newer bison releases
  - some parts of the actual code need updating to reflect changes in the
standard C++ library and to work properly with gcc 3.2
  - the build system (libtool/automake/autoconf) should really be updated to
work with the current auto* tools

The ideal maintainer has a good understanding of modern C++, the GNU build
system and preferably has experience with GUI programming using
Motif/Lesstif.

[*] The full package description is:
The Data Display Debugger (DDD) is a popular graphical user interface to
UNIX debuggers such as GDB, DBX, XDB, JDB and others. Besides ``usual''
front-end features such as viewing source texts and breakpoints, DDD
provides an interactive graphical data display, where data structures are
displayed as graphs. Using DDD, you can reason about your application by
watching its data, not just by viewing it execute lines of source code.
 .
Other DDD features include: debugging of programs written in Ada, C,
C++, Chill, Fortran, Java, Modula, Pascal, Perl and Python; machine-level
debugging; hypertext source navigation and lookup; breakpoint, backtrace,
and history editors; preferences and settings editors; program execution
 in terminal emulator window; debugging on remote host; on-line manual;
interactive help on the Motif user interface; GDB/DBX/XDB command-line
interface with full editing, history, and completion capabilities.
 .
This version is linked against Lesstif, an LGPL-ed implementation of Motif.
