Why?  There already exist bugs filed against msttcorefonts that deal with
this issue; specifically, Bug#162265 suggests an equivalent (and possibly
better) way to accomplish the same thing.  I don't see how filing yet
another important bug with the maintainer will encourage them to fix
things any sooner.

Well, yes, though the particular brokenness that msttcorefonts causes is
quite nasty - fonts.dir files aren't supposed to lie.
