You're wholly incorrect here. Note the subject: openssl. Openssl has processor-specific assembly routines that are built at compile time. Using those routines rather than the least common denominator makes a *huge* difference in performance. (On sparc, for example, it can make the difference between an almost instantaneous ssh login and one that takes several seconds.) Back to the subject at hand, it would be nice at the least if there were an easy way to manually build processor-optimized ssl packages. (The current procedure to do that is anything but obvious or simple.) -- Mike Stone
