I like using environment variables to change the preferences for the
specific run. :)

Yeah, easy to edit too.

Yes. Much saner than trying to extract all the templates to actually
seed the config.dat file. Very straightforward too.
Does anything need to be done, or would you rather write this yourself?
I'm not familiar with debconf internals, but I'm pretty enthusiastic
about what I'm working on here right now and would like to help if
possible.
