OpenSSL's API is much too complicated for most applications whose only worry
would be clear-text transmission of data.
We actually have a wrapper in place which gets configured at compile time
(--with-tls=none/gnutls/openssl), which provides nothing but basic socket
enabling/disabling functionality, and cert finding.

But I don't have a clue how generic such an API would be for more difficult
tasks - I'm rather pessimistic here.
I'd rather like to see the openssl authors to remove their stupid licence
restriction.
