At the moment you probably don't want to use a the Hurd to build binaries for other systems, but in the future you might want. I think the problem is that you can't specify a specific CPU. So if something i386-only you have to specify i386 and hurd-i386. In the future the line above might have hurd-powerpc, hurd-hppa, netbsd-i386, netbsd-powerpc, freebsd-alpha, etc. added.
