ext3 and e2fsck/mke2fs/tune2fs

Could anyone explain what the error message, "Filesize limit exceeded",
by e2fsck means? This partition is an ext3 file system.

After I got this error message, I tried to re-mke2fs this partition
and then "mke2fs -v /dev/sdb3" terminated with the same error message.

(Also I have gotten the same error message when I executed "tune2fs -j /dev/sdb3".

pc0# /sbin/e2fsck.static /dev/sdb3
e2fsck 1.25 (20-Sep-2001)
/dev/sdb3: clean, 140763/460288 files, 548729/919721 blocks

pc0# /sbin/e2fsck.static -f /dev/sdb3
e2fsck 1.25 (20-Sep-2001)
Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes
Filesize limit exceeded

ii e2fsck-static 1.25-1 A statically-linked version of the ext2 file
ii libc6 2.2.4-5 GNU C Library: Shared libraries and Timezone
