Hear, hear. Or split the thing into two: the architecture, and the
kernel. Unless we want to create the Cartesian product of
{i386,sparc,alpha,mips,hppa,etc.} by {linux,hurd,win32,openbsd} (with
restrictions such as "there's no win32 for sparc" and "hurd is only
i386 now").
