At least it's possible to install g++-2.95 and g++-3.0 simultaneously.

Another question: gcc-3.0 was announced as a release goal for
woody. Currently only hppa uses gcc-3.0 as the default compiler (ia64
still uses a gcc-2.96 based version). Is 3.0 still a release goal?

Many libraries need an (upstream) adaption to g++-3.0; this won't
happen before the woody release. If you don't want to delay the
release you would have to stick to 2.95. Of course 3.0 should ship
with woody as an alternative to 2.95.

g++-3.0 isn't available for all platforms yet (m68k), so you have to
build the libraries with different compilers on different platforms.
