Bug#101526: mount says no medium found in cd-rom

       When i try to mount my cd-rom i get an error:

$ mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdb /cdrom
mount: block device /dev/hda is write protected, mounting read only
mount: No medium found

       The computer recognizes my cd-rom drive by giving the following line 
in startup:

hdb: TOSHIBA CD-ROM XM-5602B, ATAPI CDROM drive

       I am running Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 , kernel 2.2.18pre21, libc6 2.1.3-13 
and gcc version 2.7.2.3.  I have a serial modem, floppy drive, mouse, 
keyboard and a monitor.
