Thanks. On my box newaliases ran just fine from the install script:

After modifying main.cf, be sure to run '/etc/init.d/postfix reload'.
Running newaliases
Starting mail transport agent: PostfixMay 24 11:41:37 odyssey
postfix/postfix-script: warning: creating missing Postfix flush directory
May 24 11:41:37 odyssey postfix/postfix-script: warning: adding missing entry 
for flush service to master.cf
