Re: /etc getting big

Hello,

While I am somewhat maniac with keyboard configuration (I cannot remember the
last time I use a plain keyboard configuration), I never modify xkb file in
place, instead I copy the file I want to use to a new file and edit the copy,
and put its name in XF86Config

The /etc/X11/xkb directory contains keyboard decription of hundreds of
keyboards and usually you have only one, so they may be better in
/usr/X11R6/share/xkb, letting the possibility for user to put custom version
in /etc/X11/xdm. Well not so easy to implement, I agree, if we want
xkb to look both at /etc/X11/xkb and /usr/X11R6/share/xkb.

There a difference between a config file and a data file that user may
want to tweak. In the second case user should copy the file.

Bill.
