When my HD crashed I decided to try software RAID (mirroring). It cost me the price of 2 IDE drives ($180 US) and an hour's time figuring out the tools. If Debian had the option to set up software RAID at install time, I would use it on my next computer. -itai PS. I do a back-up to CD every week or so.
