Bug#83299: ITP: debfoster

Package: wnpp
Version: N/A

debfoster works a bit like apt, only it will record only those
packages that you want to have installed. This means that any changed
dependancies get noted, and you can remove the packages that are left
behind.

It's from http://www.fruit.eu.org/debfoster/, license is GPL, with
some parts LGPL 2 and 2.1.

From the website:

What is it?

Debian uses the main programs apt and dpkg to manage packages.
Debfoster is a program to read your existing dpkg status files and
separate the
packages you really asked for from the packages that got installed
because some program happened to need it.

Debfoster will help you get rid of packages get left behind on your
system when the program that required it was removed or upgraded to a
version that
doesn't have the dependency.

How does it work?

Simply run it by typing its name. It will ask you a series of
questions about packages that are currently installed. You can choose
to keep a package (in
which case debfoster will remember this) or you can have it remove
(which debfoster will do for you when it's done asking questions). if
you don't know
what the package is about, you can type a question mark to get some
information about it.

You can also use debfoster to add or remove packages. Simply run
debfoster with the names of the desired packages and it will run
apt-get install for you
(and skip the questions). A package will be removed if you place a
minus (-) directly after it.
