I downloaded this version of "The Devil's Dictionary" from
http://wiretap.area.com/Gopher/Library/Classic/devils.txt. I don't
know what the formatting requirements are for fortune, but I feel
confident you could write a sed script to convert the file to a
fortune database. I don't know what tools are required to produce a
fortune .dat file.

     /usr/share/games/fortunes/definitions contains a number of
quotations from "The Devil's Dictionary".

bob:vc-/1:bob>grep -c Bierce /usr/share/games/fortunes/definitions
74

This compares with 995 definitions in the full DD.
