Books to teach myself 'programming infrastructure'

What I'd like to have is a book that does not cover actual
programming, but the meta-things about programming under
Linux/Unix.

Some of my questions include:

How to set up a CVS repository for a new project?
How to set up the project's non-source files? (Makefile, etc)
How to use automake/autoconf?
How to make everything quite portable?

In short, I can hack in C but don't know the first thing about how to
organize something with more than a few source files...

Thank you

Christian
