That's a problem with your university setup then, it doesn't apply to
us.

It's not possible because:
1. an environment setting shouldn't be necessary to get things running
2. it doesn't work at all for setuid/setgid programs since they ignore
it
3. a postinst can't modify the environment of other processes anyway
