I have a 30G drive here in a box with an old motherboard and the only way
I can get grub to boot it is to put the boot files in the first partition.
If you go down this track use grub from woody - it has much improved
documentation which makes your first install a lot easier.
We need to get the kernel crew to support grub so that "make install"
knows about it.
