better make the goal portability between all of them
(they are not that much different after all)

freebsd has most features, netbsd is most portable, openbsd
most secure...

IMHO going (as suggested) the way of binary compatibility is
flawed, the sources ARE available after all

port dpkg, apt
make a package from BSD libc and start compiling base packages

Both. Sometimes. Just do not forget to say:
1) BSD userland sucks
2) linux userland is bloated
3) linux kernel MM sucks
4) linux kernel is bloated
5) BSD kernel does not support feature X
6) BSD has worse license
