Bug#731802: debootstrap: Doesn't work in LXC containers

Package: debootstrap
Version: 1.0.55
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I thought to build a Debian chroot in an LXC container, but it fails. From the debootstrap.log it turns out, debootstrap tries to create devices with MAKEDEV, but it fails with "Operation not permitted". I run debootstrap under root within an LXC container, seems LXC doesn't support the creation of devices. It would be nice to work around this problem, e.g. by adding a --variant option which is compatible with LXC. Now I can choose another way to build a custom Debian installation, still it would be useful to be able to build chroots even within containers.

Regards,
MegaBrutal
