Re: Problem with rogue translator

Quoting Fòram na Gàidhlig (fios@foramnagaidhlig.net):
Hi all,

we are having a problem with a translator who translates a lot of
stuff into our language (Scottish Gaelic) on Launchpad, but who
isn't qualified to do so. We have also just identified him on
Transifex.

We have asked him to stop using the Reviewer role on Launchpad, but
so far he won't. So, we're chasing our tail here. We just noticed
that some of the packages he translated ended up in Debian as well.
Do you import these packages from somewhere else, or are these
direct translations?

The packages I am talking about are cinnamon, docky, bisho,
aptdaemon and indicator-session.

The Tuxpaint translations (done by somebody who was a rookie
translator way back when) are also unusable. We did a new
translation ages ago, but the Tuxpaint devs haven't done an l10n
release since then. Is it possible to send you an updated
translation for Tuxpaint, or can you grab it from their repository?

debian-boot is not the right place, as this is the development mailing
list for Debian Installer. We actually don't even have any Scottish
Gaelic translation, indeed (by the way, we would welcome one...).

You should report these bugs against the relevant Debian packages.

I am sorry, but I am new to the project and there is no instructions on your homepage that I can find for a central l10n list, or whom to contact about central issues concerning translations. It said in the instructions to contact the boot mailing list if there isn't a mailing list for your language yet, so that's what I did.

So, who knows which package translations get imported from somewhere else and which package translations are done in-house? If there are no in-house translations, fine, then I will know to start looking for the package sources elsewhere and chase him there.

BTW here is the status of the PO-files for gd, so I am not making it up when I say that you have Scottish Gaelic translations ;)

http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po/gd

So, who is responsible for packaging stuff if not the installer team, and who on the Debian team do I ask for info?

I'd be happy to do a translation in the future, but at the moment we're just busy chasing this guy and trying to undo the damage he's done. He's very prolific :(

Cheers

GC
