It went just fine and I was a bit surprised, that the remaining storage-capacity on the drive was usable for other purposes. The remaining 15 GB were divided in two partitions roughly identical in size and a third 1GB swap partition. The internal flash storage of the thin client was used to put the /boot/-partition on it, thus binding the USB-stick to this paticular device. The pendrive currently in use has good reading-speed, but writing is a bit too slow. I used an BTRFS-root filesystem, enabled LZO-compression upon installation of the base-system, so the whole graphical system, which was installed afterwards is compressed now. This does not increase writing-speed, but I thought it was useful because of the USB-II-speed bottleneck at that time. Now I am not so sure about this anymore. The system runs fast enough anyway, only package installations are slow and the graphics do show some artefacts, that make me want to not use this as a backup-surf-station in case my main computer breaks, it will more likely serve me as some nano-server. it has a PCI-slot, thus can be a fileserver or hd-audio-streaming box. The price tag was around EUR 10,- including shipping-costs. I am going to get a decent CompactFlash-card, but this will be not too soon, an 8 GB card will cost another EUR 10,- to 12,-. dmesg-output is attached in zlib-compressed format to this report. The 686-pae-kernel imgae would not work on this machine, so I built a kernel-package myself for VIA-C3-Nehemia on this very computer, which took about eight hours. The configuration-file is attached, too. - -- Please make sure that the hardware-summary log file, and any other installation logs that you think would be useful are attached to this report. Please compress large files using gzip. reassign 701201 src:linux retitle 701201 libata.atapi_passthru16=0 is needed by some hardware forcemerge 690985 686954 thanks Hi, thank you for submitting installation reports, much appreciated. I read through all the bugs mentioned here (and I'm sure they were read by several people at the time they were submitted) and am closing them now as/if - they (finally) indicated success and/or - I know from first hand experience that the functionality is working in Wheezy and/or - they only contained very little information and/or - they contained user errors and/or - they were caused by broken hardware and/or - they have been from a development phase where things were not stable and/or - they are quite old (and thus likely fixed today) and/or - moreinfo was asked and not given. If I've closed a bug incorrectly please do reply (it's easy to reopen and I'll do if requested) or just file a new one - thats often better, as the bug log will be clearer and shorter and not contain cruft. cheers, HolgerAttachment: signature.asc
