Package: installation-reports Boot method: from a downloaded CD Image version: http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/squeeze_di_beta1/i386/iso-cd/debian-squeeze-di-beta1-i386-netinst.iso Date: several tries in November Machine: IBM clone built from intel OR840 motherboard, SCSI hard drives, onboard ethernet Processor: dual 933MHz Memory: 2Gig Rhambus Partitions: single partition Output of lspci -knn (or lspci -nn): Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot: [ok] Detect network card: [ok] Configure network: [failed] Detect CD: [ok] Load installer modules: [ok] Detect hard drives: [ok] Partition hard drives: [ok] Install base system: [ok] Clock/timezone setup: [ ] User/password setup: [ok] Install tasks: [ ] Install boot loader: [ ] Overall install: [ ] Comments/Problems: The onboard ethernet card has driver in the motherboard BIOS and is able to use DHCP (as set up by router). This is demonstrated by using the BIOS network install in the CMOS. The router established an address, and the machine read it. But the LINUX installation was not able to use DHCP, could not establish an address with the router DHCP and could not then access the internet to continue the installation. This machine has used an earlier version of Debian 5.0 and did just fine with using DHCP. I did try loading a package that may have had an ethernet card driver (e100), but was unsuccessful. Unable to determine the problem, unsuccessful at loading Debian 6.0 Beta. Still trying to find the problem. No error messages in the installation except unable able to access any download sites (mirrors).

reassign 609339 netcfg tags 609339 + wontfix reassign 604150 partman-partitioning thanks Hi, thank you for submitting installation reports, much appreciated. I read through all the bugs mentioned here (and I'm sure they were read by several people at the time they were submitted) and am closing them now as/if - they (finally) indicated success and/or - I know from first hand experience that the functionality is working in Wheezy and/or - they only contained very little information and/or - they contained user errors and/or - they have been from a development phase where things were not stable and/or - they are quite old. If I've closed a bug incorrectly please do reply (it's easy to reopen and I'll do if requested) or just file a new one - thats often better, as the bug log will be clearer and shorter and not contain cruft. cheers, HolgerAttachment: signature.asc
