The only problems/observations were: 1. Partitioning I used the default single partition setup suggested by 'partman'. I assume that the suggested partitioning is "correct". I was puzzled however that the suggested scheme includes a 2.5 GB swap space since the Installation Manual states "On 32-bit architectures (i386, m68k, 32-bit SPARC, and PowerPC), the maximum size of a swap partition is 2GB." [C.3. Recommended Partitioning Scheme]. Is this no longer true? Am I wasting drive space? Also, does there need to be 512.0 B of free space at the end of the drive? 2. Keyboard was not set up correctly. I have the UK variant of the iBook keyboard and e.g. @ and " were inverted, and some other keys were incorrect. The Installation Manual states "Once the system installation is complete, you'll be able to select a keyboard layout from a wider range of choices (run kbd-config as root after you have completed the installation)." [6.3.1.3. Choosing a Keyboard]. I notice that 'kbd-config' is part of the 'console-common' package and this was not installed. Installing 'console-common' configures an almost perfect console keymap setup but the X keymap is still wrong. 3. Sound did not work. It turns out that the 'snd_powermac' module must be loaded and I have put this in '/etc/modules'. Now sound works. 4. Battery not detected by 'gnome-power-manager', etc. The 'pmu_battery' module must be loaded and I had to put this in '/etc/modules'. 5. There is no CPU frequency scaling. '/var/log/syslog' has the line: "ondemand governor failed, too long transition latency of HW, fallback to performance governor" I have installed the 'powernowd' daemon to work around this. 6. 'pbbuttonsd' failed to install. The relevant lines in '/var/log/installer/syslog' are probably: Dec 2 20:17:48 apt-install: Queueing package pbbuttonsd for later installation [...] Dec 2 20:28:56 in-target: Unable to locate package pbbuttonsd Dec 2 20:28:56 in-target: Dec 2 20:28:56 base-installer: warning: Failed to install pbbuttonsd into /target/: 100 I installed this manually after installation. I am not really sure if 'pbbuttonsd' is needed on this machine. The brightness, volume and eject buttons work as expected without 'pbbuttonsd'. By default, installation of 'pbbuttonsd' and its dependencies seems to have only the following noticable effects: * The laptop suspends again immediately after waking from suspend (unless this is turned off in '/etc/pbbuttonsd.conf'). * The special buttons now work "inverted", requiring 'fn' to be held. * The HDD spins down when on battery power. This is due to 'laptop-mode-tools' which 'pbbuttonsd' recommends. (I assume that the fact that this does not work otherwise is a bug in 'gnome-power-manager'). -- Please make sure that the hardware-summary log file, and any other installation logs that you think would be useful are attached to this report. Please compress large files using gzip. Hi, thank you for submitting installation reports, much appreciated. I read through all the bugs mentioned here (and I'm sure they were read by several people at the time they were submitted) and am closing them now as/if - they (finally) indicated success and/or - I know from first hand experience that the functionality is working in Wheezy and/or - they only contained very little information and/or - they contained user errors and/or - they have been from a development phase where things were not stable and/or - they are very old, more than 2.3 years. If I've closed a bug incorrectly please do reply (it's easy to reopen and I'll do if requested) or just file a new one - thats often better, as the bug log will be clearer and shorter and not contain cruft. cheers, HolgerAttachment: signature.asc
