uname -a: Obviously impossible! kernel 2.6. though
Date: 14/5/04 10:11
Method: sarge-i386-netinst.iso copied to cd, sums checked ok,
installed linux26 via rutgers mirror.
Machine: Sager 5680

Memory:512
Root Device: IDE
Root Size/partition table: C:\windows, ntfs, approx 30 g free space,
apporx 30 g

sharing which may be the problem!!!
Base System Installation Checklist:

Install base system: [O]
Install boot loader: [O]
Reboot: [E]
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it
Note - Installed from daily build 13 May 2004 after beta 4 failed to
recognise windows xp ntfs. Since most people dual boot, this is not a
minor inconvenience, and should be noted prominently on the download,
not in the errata, as it discourages newbies from even trying to go
further.
1. Installer immediately and accurately recognised realtek 8169, and
connected to rutgers mirror to install base and programmes. Base
installed, then rebooted to install programmes, during this
installation, the words prism54 appeared, and while the install appeared
to take place over this looping, nothing further could be accomplised.
I then tried to reboot, and the reboot hung at the same prism 54
message, which, of course, became unreadable as the rest of the process
seem tot be trying to take place on top of it. My card is dwl g 650,
pci internal wireless.
2. Critical - upon realising that the install was doomed, I decided to
rewrite via the windows repair console, my boot and mbr. This could not
be done due to the following error - partition not active. Noted that
there had beed added 3 mb space before "c" and between the two linux
partitions. Noted that the description of OS was now, <partition
inacive - windows xp/os2 - ntfs> This appears to be realted to what
would be needed in a Mac type environment, but both silly and dangerous
in an xp/linux dual boot.
3. Since fixboot -fix mbr failed because partition could not be made
active, I faced a re-install of windows, thus the windows headers in
this report.

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful
The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.
In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.
You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.
If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.
Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
