my memory fooled my... I reinstalled debian to make sure and it is:

XKBMODEL="pc105"
XKBLAYOUT="pt"
XKBVARIANT=""
XKBOPTIONS=""

it doesn't get any better though.

I've also tried to boot from the sid netboot powerpc repository but
there was something wrong with the load method, Elf didn't recognise
emachine or something similar
