d-i slowness on QNAP TS-209

Hi,
I recently installed Debian on a QNAP TS-209 (armel). There were very long
delays, up to a few minutes, between some d-i screens, especially in partman
(see the original thread on debian-arm [1]).
I believe this was with the squeeze alpha1 version of d-i [2], or possibly a
snapshot. In any case it was suffering from #585733 and couldn't create any
ext4 partitions, so I restarted with the lenny installer instead. This did
not suffer from the long delays.
The setup was two 2 TB SATA drives, with LVM on top of md RAID1. The long
pauses occurred for example when:
*entering the RAID manager,
*after configuring a partition (mount point, file system etc) and returning
to the main partman screen,
*after confirming the partitioning setup, before the progress bar when it
creates the file systems.
Is this anything I should investigate more? Since I have now succeeded in
installing the machine, I am reluctant to reflash it with d-i again unless
it is really worthwhile.
Cheers,
Marcus
