Package: grub-installer
Version: 1.27

I've used recent (late Dec/early Jan) daily builds of Lenny installer images on my dmraid system (Silicon Image 3112A "SATA RAID" controller), using "install dmraid=true". The installation works, including partitioning, but installing grub doesn't. The grub installer correctly identifies the root partition, and then claims to have successfully installed grub on the dmraid device, but on rebooting the previous boot loader is still intact, and there is no sign of grub.

I ended up installing grub4dos from Windows, and manually editing menu.lst to point to my Lenny installation.

Once rebooted into Linux, running grub-install from there fails properly, i.e. with an error message (I think it was "no such device" or similar).

Recently the support for dmraid in partman has been improved significantly
and some issues with grub installations have been fixed.
I expect this will have also fixed the problem you had.

Please see http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/SataRaid for current
status and instructions for installing Debian on a Serial ATA RAID
device.

Cheers,
