Comments/Problems:

<Description of the install, in prose, and any thoughts, comments
and ideas you had during the initial install.>

I was using Debian 2.6.18 amd64, but it became corrupted. I kept /home
and /usr/local but reformatted other non-Windows partitions.

I use the free nVidia drivers.

In the previous install, eth0 was the FireWire and eth1 the NIC. In
this install, eth0 is the NIC and nothing was set up for the FireWire.

In the previous install, I had a Hauppauge! PVR-350; I upgraded to a
HVR-1600 just before the new install. Despite over a year of effort, I
never got the PVR-350 to work outside of Windows. So far it appears
the HVR-1600 will also never work. (I actually chose etch-n-half in
hopes it would work.)

The 2.6.18 kernel was always stable. I also had a 2.6.21 backports
kernel that was usually stable. However, at totally unpredictable,
random times the entire system would lock up without any warning or
error message. The Caps Lock and Scroll Lock lights would blink and
the Num Lock go off. Recovery is possible only with the switch at the
rear of the power supply. This problem continues with the 2.6.24
install. This has never happened in Win2000/XP.
