Nothing much we can do about that. Individual mirrors can sometimes have 
problems. Next time I'd suggest you use an alternative mirror a bit 
closer to home. There are other mirrors in Germany, or else use 
ftp.nl.debian.org which is very reliable.

That is very much possible. Patches to add support for detecting it would 
be most welcome. The relevant component of the installer is os-prober.

This is outside the scope of the installer, but again sounds like a 
(probably temporary) mirror issue. If it is a structural issue, please 
file a bug report against the synaptic package.

Thank you for submitting your reports. They are very much appreciated. 
Although we do try to at least read all of them (which helps a lot to see 
trends and recurring issues), unfortunately we lack the manpower to 
always properly respond to them.

Also, for adding really specific support for things like detecting and 
supporting "Red Hat with Xen" or OpenSolaris we do rely on getting 
patches from the people who actually run such dual-boot setups.

Debian is a community effort and there's only so much the (small) D-I core 
team can do.
