Bug#365859: found difference between boot logs of the two xserves

I found a difference between the boot logs of this xserve and the one
in Bug#365844. For some reason, linux views this xserve as having
'via-pmu: Server Mode is disabled'

     # diff netinst20060503.log.node03 netinst20060503.log.node01

why would attaching a USB device turn change the behavior of the pmu?
