I just tried with
http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/sid_d-i/i386/20050905/debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso
and the problem is still there.

Actually, parted itself never calls libparted's
ped_disk_minimize_extended_partition() function, so I don't think
that would prove anything.  I think partman should be careful calling
this function until it allows callers to supply their own constraint.
And I think the call in command_partitions() is a bug, regardless.
