Well no pci ethernet detected there.

There seems to be a problem in 2.6.8 about detecting some nvidia network
chips.

modprobe forcedeth on console 2 should load the driver, even though the
pci info doesn't list it and hence the installer doesn't know to load
it.

It seems to have been fixed in later kernels but that doesn't help the
sarge installer much. Loading the driver manually should do the trick
though.

So in summary try this:
boot linux26 option
when it fails to detect network, hit leftalt+F2, then 'modprobe
forcedeth' and it should hopefulyl find the network chip, then
leftalt+F1 to go back to installer and retry detecting network and
hopefully it will then have found it.

ifconfig -a in console2 should also show an eth device if it found it.
Don't confuse the firewire port which it often detects too as the one
you want. The MAC address of ethernet is xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx while for
firewire it is much longer.
ie: 00-11-D8-00-00-0D-1D-F5-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00 is a firewire MAC.
