This is either a driver conflict or a DMA issue. CD problems on some
hardware is a known issue.
There are several things you can try to solve this.

Did you try booting the installer with "linux26" to try the 2.6 kernel?

If that does not work, try booting with "expert" and select the driver
modules needed for your hardware by hand.
You can also try just deselecting all modules except those needed for CD
support (ide-core, generic, ide-detect, ide-cd, isofs).

You can also try mounting and reading from the drive manually from a shell
after switching to VT2 (using Alt-F2).

Unfortunately there is no easy way to change the DMA setting.
You will have to do 'echo -n "using_dma:0" > settings' (or :1) in
the /proc/ide directory corresponding to your CD-ROM drive.

Please let us know the results.

Cheers,
FJP
