It is the 2.6 install, and the 2.4 install doesn't get any further. I
haven't explicitly tried the 2.4 install with yesterday's daily build,
but I did try both the 2.6 and 2.4 with today's daily build just
now. Previous attempts with 2.4 on daily build 20050315 were
unsuccessful. But here's the details on today's attempts.

Scenario 1, Hitting Enter at the isolinux prompt for a 2.4 kernel:

On the main installer screen, the following errors show up:

1. [?] Detect and mount CD-ROM, Error while running 'modprobe -v aic79xx'

2. [?] Detect network hardware, Error while running 'modprobe -v aic79xx'

3. [?] Detect hardware, Error while running 'modprobe -v aic79xx'

4. [!!] Partition disks, No partitionable media, No partitionable
media were found.

On the Alt-F3 screen (kernel messages, I guess?)

Using /lib/modules/2.4.27-2-386/kernel/drivers/scsi/scsi_mod.o
Using /lib/modules/2.4.27-2-386/kernel/drivers/scsi/aic7xxx/aic79xx.o
insmod: init_module: aic79xx: No such device
insmod scsi_mod
insmod aic79xx
modprobe: failed to load module aic79xx

On the Alt-F4 screen (d-i debugging?)

hw-detect: Detected module 'aic79xx' for 'Adaptec AIC-7901 U320
w/HostRAID'
hw-detect: Trying to load module 'aic79xx'
kernel: SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00
hw-detect: Error loading 'aic79xx'

Scenario 2, using 'linux26' at the isolinux prompt:

On the main installer screen, the only errors that show up during
hardware detection relate to the floppy module. Since this system was
ordered without a floppy drive (just one SCSI disk and 1 optical
drive), this is expected, but possibly shouldn't throw a
severe-looking error.

[!!] Partition disks, No partitionable media, No partitionable media
were found.

On the Alt-F3 screen, no module errors except for those relating to
floppy.ko

The last several lines from that screen:

File descriptor 3 left open
File descriptor 4 left open
File descriptor 5 left open
File descriptor 6 left open
No matching physical volumes found
File descriptor 3 left open
File descriptor 4 left open
File descriptor 5 left open
File descriptor 6 left open
No volume groups found
Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...

No errors on the Alt-F4 screen that I could see. This kernel doesn't
throw an error on loading the aic79xx module, but there's never any
kernel output showing that it picks up the SCSI card, the attached
disk, etc. I've not used a 2.6 kernel before, but I assume that I'd
see something like the messages in 2.4 and earlier kernels on SCSI
detection. As in, if I did 'dmesg | grep SCSI', I'd get output
relating to the SCSI card, disks, etc. Am I correct on this?

I think this is identical to bug 275006, in any case. Same hardware,
same errors.
