The partiton was formatted before running the "install base" step of
d-i. The error occurs 61% of the way through the step, (after many
packages are unpacked and configured) so either the test is done at
the wrong time or a different error is triggering the wrong message.
I reran the install, and the third console had an error message doing
a umount of (the nonexistant) /target/dev/pts
(apparently your message directly to me did not make it, please use the
bts -submitter address.)
