Bug#229593: Could not install any kernel

Package: installation-reports

Debian-installer-version: 2004-01-25
http://debian.tu-bs.de/debian/dists/sid/main/installer-i386/current/images/hd-media-image.img.gz
uname -a: The installation has not been completed
Date: 2004-01-25 10:00-15:00
Method:
  mount -o loop hd-media-image.img /mnt
  cp sarge-i386-businesscard.iso /mnt (I got the file from
     http://people.debian.org/cdimage/testing/netinst/i386/beta2/)
  (I tested also the file sarge-i386-netinst.iso)
  umount /mnt
  dd if=hd-media-image.img of=/dev/hdb7

  After reboot I used grub to chainload /dev/hdb7. The installation was
  good up to the moment of installing the kernel. I chosed several
  kernel-versions (2.6, 2.6.0, 2.4.23(?), 2.4.18-bf2.4, 2.4). After the
  kernel installation there was nothing in /target/boot. The system is
  unbootable.

  While I tried a network-install the packages had been loaded without
  proxy from debian.tu-bs.de with success.

Machine: Desktop PC
Processor: AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz
Memory: 512MB
Root Device: IDE /dev/hdb5
Root Size/partition table:
  /dev/hdb5 -> /      10 GB
  /dev/hdb8 -> /boot 100 MB (temporary)

Output of lspci: (lspci of my working old installation)
