I suggest hw-detect, see below.

No. But I think I identified the real cause of the problem:
installer boots up
|
v
first hw-detection for searching CD-drive
|
v
PCMCIA is detected, cardmgr is started, tries to load pcnet_cs and fails
(module is not available yet)
|
v
udeb from CD are loaded (like pcmcia-module-...)
|
v
second hw-detection run
|
v
pcnet_cs is loaded by discover
|
v
cardmgr is started again, but detects it is already runninf and DOES
NOTHING!
If I kill cardmgr and start it manually again, it identifies the network
card and I can proceed. So hw-detect should really bring cardmgr to
actually try again to find and use cards in the second run.
