Am I on the right list for my problems?

I've got some new hardware and have put Debian Woody on it with a 2.4
kernel from a set of binary woody CDs. The system is up and running
but I cannot yet get X working and, while the network card seems ok on
the new machine nothing seems to be recognised on the old so I cannot
get stuff off the old to the new very easily.

Is this the right list to be seeking help with such difficulties? If
so, what sort of information should I give when I seek detailed help?
If not, I would be grateful if someone could point me to the right
list.
