This host is an x86 CPU, and has a CDROM and floppy drive shared between all hosts on a switchable USB bus. This probably needs the usb-storage module (and dependencies) available. In looking at archives, this looks like what Martin was talking about on Tue, 9 Sep 2003 01:33:43 +1000 (Install report, laptop with USB CD-ROM).

We have plenty of space on the cdrom, so I have added usb storage
support. If someone can tell me what modules will be needed for firewire
support, I can make the udebs and we can include those too. We have 669k
free on the CD initrd -- the usb storage support used 90k.
