[woody] What are the plans so far.

Joey, i have some ideas of how woody boot floppies could work and would
like to see how close they are to yours, or what are the curent plans
for woody?

Some things ive been thinking are

base.tgz could be created on the fly if someone has access to the debian
archive.

An intermediate install could be installed to either ramfs (or ramdisk)
or a loopback filsystem depending on the local systems available
resources.

Busybox can unpack debs (one ar.c patch pending that fixes extracting
newer debs) so if the install disk had enough to contact the debian
archive (net, hd, cd whatever) then busybox could unpack dpkg*deb or
apt*deb and its dependencies with busybox ar, gunzip and tar. Then apt
of dpkg could install the rest of base to either loop or ramfs before
doing a chroot or pivot.

This interim install should have enough to repartition, maybe resize
ext2, fat partitions, if on a loopfs then it may be possible to have a
raid1 or lvm mirror of two loopfs's, each on a seperate drive or
partition if available, that way the whole drive could be repartitioned
without destroying the loopfs.

The interim installer would be independent of what is actually being
installed, ie there could be a linux interim install which actually
installs debian/linux, debian/hurd or even debian/bsd or debian/plan9,
who knows what will be available for woody.
