Configuring Modules works but emits ugly warnings

Boot floppies from CVS, modutils 2.3.11-3, modconf 0.2.26.14,
compact flavor:

When inserting any module I get

Note: /target/etc/modules.conf is more recent thatn
/lib/modules/2.2.15-compact/modules.dep

I get this even when I manually run depmod -a on the second console,
meaning modules.conf is recreated on every insert.

Plug-and-Play is really nice, unfortunately it only works 50% of the time.
To be specific the "Plug" almost always works. --unknown source
