It worked for me, too. But I still could not step forward in the main menu. I got a red screen about some network dhcp failure, even though ifconfig on the console showed me that the NIC was correctly configured. Floppy drives are more or less obsolete today. A network install is surely more efficient than writing Sarge on more than 6 CDs to do a CDROM installation. So I would guess it is pretty important to get the netinst CD working.
