What you see is correct. I misunderstood the symptoms described in bug
527910 as crash.
For further clarificdation:
1) Clicking on the Base-button in the gui started by soffice: Nothing
seems to happen.
2) Starting the Base-module via any File-Menu (File - New - Database)
--> The Document-Recovery-Dialog appears --> Clicking the OK-Button -->
Crash
ps aux | grep office --> no openoffice.org-processes remaining
3) Starting oobase in a terminal-window --> A message like that:
(soffice:24443): GLib-GObject-WARNING **:
/build/buildd-glib2.0_2.16.6-2-i386-PgybGk/glib2.0-2.16.6/gobject/gsignal.c:1669:
signal `monitors-changed' is invalid for instance `0x95e5100'
ps aux | grep office --> no openoffice.org-processes remaining
