I have the same problem. take a look at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=392207.
It seems like downgrading to 0.8.6-svn20061001.debian-4 could help.
Unfortunately i couldn't find a deb with that version in the archive.
