Compiling KDE

I was wondering if anyone has successfully compiled KDE. I have made some
progress, but have run into a roadblock which I hope someone could help me
with.

I have succesffully configured and installed the kdesupport and kdelib
packages using this command:

./configure --host=alphaev56 --x-includes=/usr/X11R6/include/X11/
make
make install

I assumed that I would do the same with KDEBASE but I this is where I run
into an error. Part way through the configure process, it tells me this
and stops:

...
checking for KDE libraries installed... configure: error: your system
fails at linking a small KDE application!
Check, if your compiler is installed correctly and if you have used the
same compiler to compile Qt and kdelibs as you did use now


					Any help would be appreciated,
