Install by NFS fails (while network works)

[No emergency, I finally installed from a CD and it worked.]

Trying to install the base system with NFS, I get:

mount RPC: timed out

when I try to mount the disk from the shell (the installation program just
says there was an error).

What is odd is that the network works (I can ping) and the the mount
apparently succeeded (here is what the NFS server says):

Jan 14 10:12:13 ezili mountd[13303]: NFS mount of /home/bortz/tmp/alpha-debian
attempted from 157.99.60.44
Jan 14 10:12:13 ezili mountd[13303]: /home/bortz/tmp/alpha-debian has been
mounted by 157.99.60.44

I noticed the warning in <http://lhpca.univ-lyon1.fr/axp/README>:

> - If you have the base files available by NFS, configure network before
> trying to install base, or OS. That is _break the suggested order_.
> Then you will have an NFS choice when selecting the install base step
> afterwards (yes, it is not very intuitive).

But it is wrong (the installation program configures the network first and I
have the NFS choice) and, anyway, it's not my problem, the symptoms are not
the same.
