I don't know if this is necessary.
What advantages does this give you over the hierarchical structure:
lpd/<printer-name>/device
lpd/<printer-name>/filter
...or, in a more complex example..
printers/local/<printer-name>/device
priners/remote/<printer-name>/host
Caveat - I have never used a printer under linux, so my familiarity with
this particular example is zero..
