Sorry about the delay; I had been a bit busy for work.
I've merged your branch, and added a few minor commits of my own on top.
Some review would be appreciated.
If nothing pops up, I plan on releasing 2.9.22 this weekend, so we can
close the CVE (we've been assigned CVE-2011-1925, FWIW).
